For the first time since 2016, the Greyhounds won the Eagle Classic at Brown County with 83 points to outdistance a field laden with probable state finalists that included Brebeuf (100 points) and Bloomington South (130 points). For the third time in as many races, Carmel was led by freshman Kole Mathison who outdueled a couple competitors down the last stretch to secure third place in 15:41. Sophomore Charlie Schuman (16:03), senior Austin Throckmorton (16:09), junior Will Anderson (16:15) and junior Hudson Alden (16:23) also scored for the ‘Hounds in a young line-up. All ten runners in the varsity race ran lifetime bests with Bing Hudson (16:25), Caleb Leinheiser (16:27), Nick Schuster (16:32), Sam Hooton (16:36) and Takeru Shishikura (16:42) all competing.
In an earlier frosh-soph race, a tight pack of runners led by freshman Charlie Leedke in 16:56 won a tight team battle with Bloomington North that went to a sixth-runner tiebreaker. The Greyhounds were also victorious in the JV race with 30 points led by race winner Nate Seketa in 17:02.
